If you want to look your best, taking care of your skin is very important. But you don’t have to buy expensive skin care products. The average person has everything they need to get great looking skin right in their kitchens. The following are simple, inexpensive things found in most kitchens that can improve the look and feel of your skin.

1. Greek yogurt

The lactic acid and other natural ingredients in Greek yogurt can help to nourish and revive
dull skin and gently exfoliate and soothe it. Mixed with some lemon juice
and a 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, Greek yogurt makes a great anti-inflammatory
mask that leaves the skin clean and smooth.

2. Sugar

Sugar is perfect for exfoliating. Mixed with coconut oil or olive oil, sugar can be used to make an inexpensive yet effective scrub for the lips, face, and body that removes dead skin cells and gives your skin a youthful glow.

3. Eggs Whites and Lemon

The combination of egg whites and lemon tightens and tones the skin. Egg whites make skin firmer. Lemons have antibacterial properties. To make an effective mask, place one egg white in a bowl. Squeeze half a lemon into the bowl. Wisk them together until fizzy. Spread the mixture all over your face. Leave it on for between 5 and 10 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. This leaves the skin soft and healthy.

4. Honey

A natural cleanser and moisturizer, honey is used in many expensive commercial skin care products. Its powerful antibacterial and antifungal properties make it an excellent skin cleanser and treatment for dry skin. Using honey in a homemade mask provides all its benefits for a fraction of what you pay for commercial products.

5. Baking soda

Found in every kitchen, baking soda is very versatile. A small amount can be used in the bath or shower to gently exfoliate the skin and remove blackheads. A paste made with baking soda and warm water applied to a pesky pimple and left on for about 15 minutes will quickly absorb the excess oil, reduce inflammation and leave your skin looking good. Mix baking soda, honey and olive oil and you have an excellent facial scrub.

6. Olive oil

Most commercial moisturizers contain olive oil. It’s very effective for removing makeup, rehydrating skin and moisturizing dry, cracked heels. Use it to create your own wonderful moisturizer and keep your skin soft and smooth for a lot less than the commercial moisturizers.

7. Oatmeal

Oatmeal’s coarse texture makes it an effective, inexpensive exfoliator and skin cleanser. It contains saponins, chemical compounds that help remove oil and dirt from the skin. Mixing oatmeal and honey creates a great homemade scrub. Adding a few handfuls of oatmeal to your bath water can help soothe acne-prone skin.

8. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can be used in a number of different ways to improve the health and appearance of your skin. It makes a great body lotion, the base of a homemade moisturizer, can be used to soften rough skin on the feet and make your legs feel silky smooth after shaving.

9. Tomatoes

Tomato juice is excellent for tightening up, toning and brightening the skin. It’s also great for removing excess oil. Simply crush up a ripe tomato, dip a cotton ball in the juice and apply it to your face. Wash it off after about five minutes. If your face has very oily areas, place thin slices of tomato on them for a few minutes then rinse with lukewarm water.

10. Milk

Milk can be used to cleanse and soften the skin on your face. The acids in milk can also work wonders on the dry, hard skin on your feet. Add a few drops of essential oil to warm milk and let your feet soak in it for about 20 minutes. It will soften the skin and make removing it easier.
